Here’s something I found interesting! Another interesting thing we discovered is that you can create nearly any trademark you want, then protect it by officially registering it as yours. There are rules for this, for example your proposed mark can’t be descriptive (Running Socks TM), use protected names (Royal Socks TM), or sound like someone else’s pre-existing trademarks. All quite logical. But what is more surprising is that it doesn’t need to be at all accurate. Eh? I could probably successfully register ‘fullywaterproofsock’ then apply it to a range of products that were neither waterproof, nor indeed socks. Is it...

WAVA (World Association of Veteran Athletes) age grading calculations stats are just great! In case you don’t know, they give you a score for your performance relative to your age and sex. In theory this allows you to compare yourself against others, and to see that in real terms you’re as good as that young whippet who shot past you two miles ago while chatting to his mate. And that’s really encouraging, particularly when you’re as old as I am. But here’s the very best thing about them. I am guaranteed to get better and better! I no longer need...

I’ve recently noticed that there seems to be a huge amount of information, advice and suggestion on what we runners should wear at different temperatures. Above 10 degrees it's shorts and teeshirt, 4-10 leggings and jacket, 0-4 two layers and buff, below 0 fleece, gloves and hat, below -4 comedy gorilla suit, and so on. I think it’s much more simple than that. No matter what the weather, leaving the sanctuary of your house in the UK it always feels pretty cold outside, and the urge to put on a jacket, hat and your favourite woolly mammoth gloves is strong....

I’d never really thought about it until we started to design our own garments, but there’s a hell of a lot of rubbish spouted by people who should know better about the qualities of the garments we are sold. The word ‘technical’ is widely used to describe a material or garment, but doesn’t really mean a thing. After all, if it’s used to mean that a material has special properties, then isn’t that anything? As I type, I can see a very technical material just to my left – totally waterproof and windproof. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you….the bin...

As runners, we are constantly being bombarded by messages about the importance of nutrition and how it fuels our bodies.  It got me wondering why we seem to focus so little on the other really important fuel we need – oxygen.  I seem to recall that when I started out running my early limiting factor was that I got short of breath very quickly, and it was this that tired me way before my muscles began to complain about what I was putting them through.  Having done a bit of reading, courtesy of Mr Google, I’ve predictably discovered that there...
